We welcome foreign nationals who wish to stand with Ukraine and defend freedom. The Territorial Defense Forces are open to motivated individuals from around the world.

Basic Combat Roles
Foreign volunteers can serve in a variety of frontline and combat support roles. Below are the most common basic combat positions available in Territorial Defense units.
Modern combat heavily relies on unmanned aerial systems. Foreign volunteers with technical or operational skills can join UAV teams in the following positions:

1. Can I join if I have no military experience?
Yes. Many units accept volunteers with no prior experience. Basic training will be provided.
2. Do I need to speak Ukrainian?
Basic knowledge of Ukrainian or English is preferred. Some units provide interpreters.
3. What documents are required?
Valid passport
Legal residence status (if already in Ukraine)
Proof of military experience/training (optional)
4. Will I have official status?
Yes. Upon approval and signing a contract, you will receive official volunteer or service status.
5. Are accommodation and meals provided?
Yes. Most units provide basic housing, meals, and equipment.
6. Can I join if I’m currently outside Ukraine?
Yes, but you must travel to Ukraine on your own. We can issue an invitation letter if needed.
7. Is there financial compensation?
Yes. Monthly payments may be provided depending on the role and terms of service.
8. How long is the service period?
The contract is signed for 3 years, but there is an opportunity to terminate it at your own discretion after 6 months.
9. How long does the screening and document process take?
The full onboarding process, including background checks and official approvals, usually takes up to 1 month. Some cases may be faster or slower depending on your documentation and background.
